Headline: RAW VIDEO: Coldplay Step Up Efforts To Cleanup Asia's Rivers

Caption: British rockers Coldplay are stepping up their efforts to clean up some of Asia’s dirtiest rivers by sponsoring a second craft that will extract plastic from the water. The group first teamed up with environmental startup The Ocean Cleanup in 2018, sponsoring their Interceptor 005 on the river Klang as the firm tried to tackle the world’s most polluting rivers. Following the success of Interceptor 005 in Malaysia, supported by Coldplay and given the name ‘Neon Moon I’, they and the band are now deploying a second Interceptor vessel in the river Cisadane in Jakarta, Indonesia, where they recently performed. It is called Interceptor 020, or ‘Neon Moon II’.  Boyan Slat, Founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, says: “It’s so exciting for us to have Coldplay on board and to be making such a huge impact together against plastic pollution in Asia. We say a massive thanks to Coldplay for their help, and we can’t wait to see Neon Moon II in action and intercepting waste soon.” Interceptor 005, together with Interceptor 002, has formed a central part of The Ocean Cleanup’s operations in the river Klang in Malaysia, with over 1 million kilograms prevented from reaching the oceans and has created a cleaner environment for the local community. The Ocean Cleanup and the Government of Malaysia have also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, expanding and strengthening their collaboration on reducing plastic pollution in rivers in Malaysia. Malaysian Minister Nik Nazmi said: “Through this collaboration, the technological prowess, research capabilities, and global experience of The Ocean Cleanup can be leveraged to enhance our ability to address the multifaceted challenges posed by plastic waste. We earnestly hope that we will be able to catalyse change and set new benchmarks in the global fight against plastic pollution by joining forces.”. “Malaysia has been at the heart of The Ocean Cleanup’s operations since 2018, and we’re thrilled to work with such dedicated partners and play an even greater role in tackling plastic pollution in Malaysian rivers,” said Boyan Slat, Founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup. “Preventing plastic pollution leaking to the sea from rivers is the most efficient way to clean our oceans and our coastlines, and we hope that other countries will take inspiration from what we’ve done here and see the exciting possibilities for their own communities and environments.”
