Headline: RAW VIDEO: Use The Forge! Millennium Falcon Lands On UK Coins

Caption: Star Wars’ Millennium Falcon landed on U.K. coins and bullion bars on Monday (18 March 2024). Following the success of its first Star Wars coin series, Britain’s Royal Mint has decided to strike back with a second series of coins with designs from the science-fiction franchise. Designed by Ffion Gwillim, the first coin in the series depicts the Millennium Falcon, one of the most recognised and celebrated vehicles in the Star Wars galaxy. Collectors and fans will enjoy the coin’s unique lenticular feature, depicting a silhouette of the Millennium Falcon and the Rebel Alliance 'Starbird' symbol. Combining traditional minting techniques with modern technology, The Royal Mint’s craftspeople have faithfully reproduced the Star Wars vehicles for the first time on official UK coins. Other coins launching in 2024 will showcase a TIE Fighter, X-Wing, and Death Star II. Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint said: “We are delighted to celebrate the Star Wars franchise’s numismatic return with a series of coins dedicated to its iconic vehicles. We are excited to enthuse new and existing coin collectors across the world and capture the imaginations of Star Wars’ thriving fan base.” The lenticular feature on the coins, which tilts in the light to reveal symbols, is favourited by coin collectors, and demonstrates The Royal Mint’s specialised striking techniques. An advanced picosecond laser was used to imprint the intricate designs onto coin making tools to ensure exquisite accuracy. In time for Star Wars Day, fans will also be able get their hands on The Royal Mint’s first gold bullion bars inspired by the Star Wars galaxy. The two-part series of minted investment bullion-bars feature comic-style illustrations, including the heroic Jedi and the sinister Sith. Available in fine gold and silver editions, the first design features three legendary forces of good – Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. Andrew Dickey, Director of Precious Metals at The Royal Mint said: “The Royal Mint’s launch of the Star Wars bullion bars is particularly exciting as iconic characters of the Skywalker Saga have inspired designs that feature on bullion bars for the very first time. The perfect investment for fans of the Star Wars franchise, this unique collection of minted bullion bars provides the ideal avenue for fans to both admire and invest in this iconic brand.” The Millennium Falcon coin, which comes in a 50p and ounce range, will be available to purchase from The Royal Mint’s website at 9am Monday 18 March 2024. Customers will also have the opportunity to secure all four coins on the official launch day.
