In this case it was a woman and her family who were trapped in the attic of her flooded house. A Ukrainian border guard drone operator nicknamed “Santa” used a converted reconnaissance drone to deliver water, food, and messages of hope to those trapped by the floods - which have mainly affected the Kherson region. "There will be an evacuation. Santa" - the drone’s message read, according to the border guards. According to Ukrainian political adviser, Anton Gerashchenko, the family were later rescued - and met 'Santa'. Ukrainian officials have blamed Russia for the destruction of the dam, which has flooded settlements downriver ont he Dnipro and necessitated mass evacuations. President Volodymyr Zelensky visited flood-hit areas on Thursday (08June2023).
