Headline: Ukraine's President Zelensky Visits Flood-Hit Areas Of Mykolaiv

Caption: Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky visited flood-hit areas of the Mykolaiv region on Thursday (08June2023). Although the Kherson region, which Zelensky visited on Thursday morning, has been worst affected by the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Plant dam on Tuesday, parts of the neighbouring region have also been hit. Ukrainian officials have blamed Russia for the dam’s destruction - and accused Kremlin troops of shelling rescuers attempting an evacuation of low-lying parts of Kherson. On visiting Mykolaiv alongside its Governor Vitalii Kim, Zelensky said: “Mykolaiv region. We visited the main pumping station of the Inhulets River canal management, which is flooded due to the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP dam. “People have been evacuated from the flooded settlements. Rescuers and authorities are on the ground. We are providing people with drinking water and essential food.” An estimated 16,000 people are in the disaster area. In a previous video address to his nation, Zelensky said: “Now we need a clear and quick response from the world to what is happening. It is even impossible to establish for sure how many people in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson region may die without rescue, without drinking water, without food, without medical care. Our military and special services are rescuing people as much as it is possible, despite the shelling.”
