The Geordie hordes descended on the city ahead of the team’s UEFA Champions League game against AC Milan and many set up camp and sunned themselves while drinking beer by the city centre waterway. Although the swimmer came off second best in his race with the rowers, his team fared rather better as they drew 0-0 with their opponents, returning back to North East England with a point as they aim to qualify from a group that also includes Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint Germain.
