Headline: ‘Siren Blackbird’ Caught Impersonating Police Van

Caption: Representatives of the Thames Valley Police caught an animal impersonating their siren earlier this month. Officers at the English law enforcement division heard their familiar siren sound near a workshop where their patrol vehicles are serviced – and real sirens often blare. When they looked up, they discovered a blackbird had learned to imitate their police sirens. “Officers at our Roads Policing base in Bicester have been left a little bit confused this week, after finding out one of their resident birds has learnt to mimic the sound of a police siren!” a Facebook post from the Thames Valley Police read. “It's so accurate, they've been left thinking the sirens were faulty on the cars!” It continued, “From our workshops that test the two tone tune to officers deploying to jobs, this little fella has been sat patiently observing the noise to then recreate… This is 100% real and is NOT a late April Fools joke!” In a statement to Cover Media, Thames Valley Police Media Officer Jack Duggan dubbed the animal the “siren blackbird”. Steven Dudley of the British Ornithologists Union previously told Daily Mail that blackbirds have the ability to mimic “songs” such as siren sounds, but rarely use it. “It is very unusual,” he stressed, then explained, “A blackbird's repertoire of songs expands as they get older, so this could be a young bird.”
