Headline: RAW VIDEO: German Designer Creates 'Trunk Bunk' Portable Treehouse To Escape City Living

Caption: In a world where the hustle and bustle of urban life often consume us, German designer Henry K Wein, a recent graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven, has designed an innovative portable treehouse to help individuals reconnect with nature. His creation, the Trunk Bunk, allows occupants to spend nights among the branches of different trees. Wein's ingenious design offers a whimsical yet practical approach to experiencing nature. The Trunk Bunk's lightweight, foldable structure can be effortlessly transported by bicycle to diverse locations. A simple strap and pulley system facilitates easy installation and removal from various trees. This concept reflects Wein's desire to provide people with the opportunity to be "cocooned above the forest floor," affording them quality time to contemplate and immerse themselves in the natural world. During Dutch Design Week, Wein unveiled the prototype of his treehouse as part of the Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) graduate show. Shaped like a hexagonal prism with hinged corners, the Trunk Bunk can be flat-packed for transportation. It features waterproof textile walls, small windows, and a self-supporting structure made from aluminium and plywood, providing a shelter with a tent-like ambiance. Installing the Trunk Bunk is a straightforward process: a rope is thrown over a sturdy horizontal branch, the pulley system raises the treehouse to the desired height, and it is secured with a strap around the tree trunk. An adjustable rope ladder is provided for easy access. Wein's unique creation allows occupants to feel a part of the tree, with elastic ropes offering a comfortable suspension, free from the discomfort of ground roots, stones, and moisture. The treehouse, designed for the edge of forests, makes use of horizontal branches that provide an ideal setting for a peaceful night among the trees. Wein's vision extends beyond the prototype, as he envisions a commercial version of the Trunk Bunk that could offer an escape from the chaos of city life. This future version may utilise carbon fibre to further reduce weight and enhance portability. With his innovative Trunk Bunk, Wein aims to foster a deeper connection between humans and nature, offering a unique and rejuvenating experience that allows individuals to escape the city and find solace in the serene embrace of the forest canopy.
