Headline: RAW VIDEO: Rimac Nevera Breaks World Record By Hitting 170mph In Reverse

Caption: More than 55 years after the Lamborghini Miura became the fastest production car by breaking the 170mph barrier, the Rimac Nevera has broken another world record – by doing the same in reverse. Verified by Guinness World Records and measured by Dewesoft, the Nevera now holds the official Guinness World Records title for the fastest speed in reverse. This feat took place at the Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany, where earlier in the year, the Nevera had already shattered over 20 acceleration and braking records in a single day. It was also the site of its record-breaking top speed run, reaching 256mph (412km/h). Sporting the Time Attack Edition livery, exclusive to just 12 global customers, the Nevera clocked a top speed of 171.34mph (275.74km/h) in reverse. Unlike traditional cars with internal combustion engines or even some electric cars, the Nevera's drivetrain lacks gears. Its four individual motors can propel the car either backward or forward. This unique powertrain, capable of going from 0-100mph in 3.21 seconds or 0-200mph in just under 11 seconds forward, demonstrates similar high-performance capabilities when driven backward. Matija Renić, Nevera Chief Program Engineer at Bugatti Rimac, shared insights into the unconventional challenge: "It occurred to us during development that Nevera would probably be the world’s fastest car in reverse, but we kind of laughed it off. The aerodynamics, cooling, and stability hadn’t been engineered for traveling backward at speed, after all. But then, we started to talk about how fun it would be to give it a shot. Our simulations showed that we could achieve well over 150mph, but we didn’t have much of an idea how stable it would be – we were entering uncharted territory." Goran Drndak, Rimac Test Driver, described the experience of achieving the record: "On the run itself, it definitely took some getting used to. You’re facing straight out backward watching the scenery flash away from you faster and faster, feeling your neck pulled forward in almost the same sensation you would normally get under heavy braking. Despite it being almost completely unnatural to the way the car was engineered, Nevera breezed through yet another record." In addition to its backward speed record, the Nevera made headlines at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed with a 49.32-second time during the timed Supercar Shootout, securing its position as the fastest production car on the renowned hillclimb. In August, the Nevera conquered the Nordschleife, breaking the previous electric vehicle production lap record by 20 seconds on its debut at the challenging track. All these accomplishments were achieved by the Nevera in Time Attack livery, introduced in a limited run of 12 at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in August. The bespoke paintwork, combining Squadron Black and Lightning Green highlights, pays homage to a unique weather phenomenon and Rimac's historic e-M3 – the first-ever record-breaking vehicle from the company, setting five Guinness World Records in 2012.
