A Russian missile strike on a supermarket and post office in the town of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk Oblast, on 9 August 2024, has killed at least 11 people dead and 37 others injured, according to Ukrainian officials.
In a statement on Telegram, Presidential Office chief Andriy Yermak condemned the attack, calling it "another case of Russian terror," and stating that "warfare against civilians is all they can do." President Volodymyr Zelensky echoed these sentiments, saying, "Russia will be held responsible for this terror," and that rescue operations are ongoing, with some individuals still trapped under the rubble.
Kostiantynivka, like many other towns in Donetsk Oblast, frequently comes under Russian fire. In a similar attack in September 2023, a strike on a local market in the town killed 17 people and injured over 30 others.
Commenting on the latest attack, President Zelensky described it as an assault by "Russian terrorists on an ordinary supermarket and post office." He offered his condolences to the families of those killed and reiterated Ukraine's commitment to defending its people, saying, "We will do everything so that the world will continue to be with Ukraine, support our defence, and save the lives of our people."
