This video footage shows search and rescue operations continuing on Thursday (22August2024) after the sinking of the Bayesian superyacht near Palermo, Sicily on Monday.
Italian authorities are persisting in their search for the 18-year-old daughter of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, following the identification of one of the five bodies recovered from the wreckage of the superyacht.
The Italian Coast Guard has confirmed that the bodies of Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judith Bloomer, lawyer Christopher Morvillo, and his wife Neda Morvillo have all been retrieved.
Officials stated: “The lifeless body of the fifth missing person from the Bayesian was recovered by fire brigade divers at 8:00 this morning and brought ashore. Dives in the sea began in the early hours and are continuing as we search for the last missing individual. The fire brigade's sea rescue operation now consists of 27 divers, including 11 cave divers and 8 DNO qualified divers who use specialised gas mixtures during the decompression phase, allowing for extended time at depth.”
It is Hannah Lynch, the youngest daughter of British millionaire, who remains unaccounted for. Italian coastguards have returned to the scene, deploying divers and underwater vehicles in the ongoing search.
The yacht sank during a severe storm in the early hours of Monday. The bodies of four people, including one described as a “heavily-built man,” were recovered on Wednesday.
Salvatore Cocina, head of Sicily’s civil protection agency, stated that the priority remains the search for the missing sixth passenger.
