A snappy intruder caused a stir in Texarkana, Texas, last Wednesday morning (19 June), as an alligator was discovered sheltering beneath a parked car outside a local church.

The reptile was found at Christ Nations Church on Sowell Lane, prompting a swift – and slightly unusual – response from Texarkana police officers. Though not typically trained in wildlife handling, officers on the scene acted calmly and efficiently to help secure the animal.

In a statement, the Texarkana Texas Police Department praised the teamwork involved, saying: “Big thanks to our officers (who didn’t sign up for gator duty but handled it like pros) and to the Game Warden for guiding its safe relocation to Bringle Lake.”

No injuries were reported, and the alligator was safely transported to Bringle Lake, a nearby natural habitat.

“Everyone’s safe – especially the gator!” the department added.

Alligator sightings in urban areas are rare but not unheard of in parts of Texas, particularly during warmer months when the animals may wander from waterways in search of food or cooler spaces.

Local authorities have reminded the public to remain cautious and to contact wildlife officials if they encounter similar incidents.
