BMW has unveiled a futuristic new concept convertible at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on the picturesque shores of Lake Como.
The BMW Concept Skytop is an open two-seater showcases a stunning blend of sporty elegance and muscular design, evoking the craftsmanship of a meticulously sculpted vehicle.
“The BMW Concept Skytop is a truly unique and exotic design, in the tradition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design. “It offers a combination of driving dynamics and elegance at the highest level, comparable to its historic ancestors, like the BMW Z8 or BMW 503.”
The Concept Skytop's design is characterised by its athletic proportions and organic body. Its sleek exterior, marked by taut, muscular surfaces, is accentuated by precise lines that draw the eye towards the rear. Winglets seamlessly integrated into the door shoulders replace traditional door handles, while light-alloy wheels with intricate lamellas enhance its distinctive appearance.
From above, the car's striking features include a sweeping bonnet, the iconic BMW shark-nose design with an illuminated kidney grille, and a retracted rear section. References to the legendary BMW Z8 roadster are evident, particularly in the pronounced spline that extends from the bonnet, through the interior, to an aluminum trim on the tailgate, emphasizing the dynamic silhouette.
The harmonious design of the headlights combines intricate details with cutting-edge technology. Custom-developed LED units on milled aluminum carriers offer the slimmest profile for automotive headlights. The clean, minimalist design consolidates all lighting functions into a single installation space, while the rear lights' flat, defined shape complements the overall aesthetic.
The interior of the Concept Skytop features brogue-style leather surfaces, with reddish-brown tones creating a luxurious and spacious feel. Crystal applications embedded in the cockpit add to the sophisticated ambiance. Crafted in the traditional saddlery at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, the interior showcases BMW's commitment to artisanal craftsmanship.
Echoing the power of the iconic BMW Z8, the Concept Skytop is equipped with BMW's most powerful V8 engine, promising an exhilarating driving experience. The vehicle's colour scheme transitions smoothly from interior to exterior, with a reddish-brown roof blending into the muted silver and chrome shadow effect of the exterior paintwork. This elaborate colour gradient was crafted by an experienced master painter at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing.
BMW’s Concept Skytop stands as a testament to the brand’s dedication to innovation and design excellence, offering a glimpse into the future of luxury automotive craftsmanship.
