A rare flawless pink diamond is anticipated to sell for up to $12 million at its auction debut.

Christie’s will present 'The Eden Rose,' a 10.20-carat round brilliant fancy intense pink diamond, as the star lot of its New York Magnificent Jewels auction on June 11.

This will be the diamond's first appearance at auction.

“We are anticipating significant interest from around the world,” said Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s international head of jewellery, in a statement.

Classified as Type IIa, the most chemically pure type of diamond, the pink gemstone features a round brilliant cut known for maximising light reflection.

Its value is elevated by its “pure pink hue,” according to Christie’s, a rarity among pink diamonds which often display secondary hues of purple, orange, or grey.

The scarcity of pink diamonds, among the rarest gemstones in the world, has increased in recent years following the closure of the Argyle Mine.

Located in Western Australia, the mine produced 90 per cent of the world’s pink diamonds for decades until it closed in 2020 due to economic challenges.
