Headline: RAW VIDEO: Jacqueline Wilson Reads To Her Favourite Animals On World Book Day

Caption: While children around the world dressed up as their characters for World Book Day (7 March 2024), author Dame Jacqueline Wilson made her own fun by giving animals at Drusillas Park Zoo in East Sussex their own storytime. The Story of Tracey Beaker writer spent an afternoon with head keeper Gemma Romanis reading her most famous book to capybaras, lemurs, meerkats, monkeys, and sloths. Jacqueline and her wife Trish were also invited to take part in close encounters with some of the zoo’s friendliest and most curious animals. They also fed them their favourite treats, and Jacqueline seemed to have a natural way with the animals - and cheeky capybara baby Tango in particular. The lemur Clementine also happily settled down next to her, and meerkat Blossom sat sweetly on her lap to listen to the story. Head keeper Gemma commented: “What an honour to meet Jacqueline and invite her into our animal world! I grew up reading the Tracey Beaker books, and she definitely inspired a love of reading for me, so it’s wonderful with the help of Jacqueline to encourage other children to read by showing them that even our animals enjoy it.”
