Caption: Sony ‘expected to release’ PlayStation 5 Slim and handheld PS5 this year, Microsoft tells court. Eurogamer report that part of Microsoft’s legal battle to aquire Activision Blizzard with the US Federal Trade Commission, they have put forward the argument that Sony had plans to release both a handheld version of the PS5 and PlayStation 5 Slim before 2023 has come to an end. Microsoft are keen to prove that Nintendo’s Switch should not be considered in a separate market to PlayStation and Xbox when talking price. Proving this should help Microsoft immensely to effectively assert its position in the console market. Microsoft have pointed out that the Xbox Series is priced at $50 less than Switch’s OLED in the United States. And the PS5 Digital Edition priced at $399.99 is just $50 more. The PS5 slim, they further claim, will be released later this year at the same reduced cost to consumers. The case continues, and it is expected we will find out later this week if the FTC is successful in its attempt to block the Microsoft Activision Blizzard deal.
