Instead of being connected to customer service, some callers were being redirected to scammers trying to steal their money. Airlines that were affected include Delta, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Air France and more. The phone numbers "have since been corrected" on Google, NBC News reports. It's not clear how they were changed or who was responsible for the scam. Google issued a statement, saying it does "not tolerate this misleading activity.". "Our teams have already begun reverting the inaccuracies, suspending the malicious accounts involved and applying additional protections to prevent further abuse.", Google spokesperson, via statement. Delta also issued a statement. "Whenever we become aware of an alleged scam targeting our customers, including in this situation, we immediately conduct an investigation.", Delta spokesperson, via statement. According to Google's Business Profiles, the tech giant has had a difficult time keeping scammers from posting fake contact information within Google Search and Maps.
