Since the beginning of the year, Save America, the former president's political action committee (PAC), has spent over $40 million on Trump's legal fees, CNN reports. That is more than twice the amount that the PAC spent on legal fees in all of last year. Save America raises the majority of its funds via Trump supporters' small-dollar contributions, CNN reports. Trump's campaign team insists that the money spent on legal fees is imperative at this time. "In order to combat these heinous actions by Joe Biden’s cronies and to protect these innocent people from financial ruin and prevent their lives from being completely destroyed, the leadership PAC contributed to their legal fees to ensure they have representation against unlawful harassment.", Steven Cheung, Trump campaign spokesman, via statement. Trump's team is also reportedly forming the Patriot Legal Defense Fund Inc, which will be led by Michael Glassner. The fund will reportedly help to offset bills that some of the former president's affiliates have incurred as part of investigations into Trump. New charges in the classified documents case against Trump were brought by special counsel Jack Smith on July 27.
