Caption: How to support your mental health over the winter months. Vicky Walker, Director of People at Westfield Health, has offered her advice. ”Firstly, it's important to recognise the source of your changing mood and potential stress.” “Sometimes, it can be easy to identify that an unpaid bill or a work deadline is the cause of your worries. But your feelings can build up from various factors in winter, including SAD, work, financial worries, illnesses and relationships.” The expert explains that although it is normal for your mood to dip sometimes, it is important to keep an eye on how you are feeling during certain times of the year. ”If you feel the seasons have a noticeable impact on your mood, you may be experiencing the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) which affects millions of people in the UK.” Vicky notes that it is important that you try to stick to a regular sleep schedule, as sleep is vital for both your mental and physical health. A consistent night-time routine can have a big impact on your mental health. ”If you feel your mood slipping, build a healthy daily routine and try to stick to it, as this can help regulate your emotions and feel prepared for the days ahead.” Getting a daily dose of sunshine and creating a stress-free environment can also help your mood. ”If you have certain things which help to calm you down, like lighting candles or journaling, lean into these. Your senses can have a profound impact on your mental health.” Finally, Vicky acknowledges that a lack of support at work can negatively impact your mental health. ”Westfield Health found that less than half of UK employees feel their manager is there for wellbeing support.” "Building regular conversations about these topics and encouraging open communication are beneficial first steps to improving workplace wellbeing.” THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
