Caption: Putin Says There Will Be No Peace in Ukraine Until Russia Achieves Its Goals. Russian President Vladimir Putin made the comments during a news conference on Dec. 14. He said that there will only be peace when he demilitarizes Ukraine and secures its "denazification" . Putin also wants Ukraine to be neutral between Russia and NATO, even though Ukraine is actively trying to join the western security alliance. "There will be peace when we achieve our goals." Putin went on to say that Russia is currently faring better in the war since Ukrainians are being forced to seek military aid from western supporters. He believes that the external support will soon run out. "They bring everything for free. But this freebie may end someday, and, apparently, it is ending little by little." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Washington this week to try to get more support from the U.S., but lawmakers remain divided on further funding. Although Russia struggled during the first year of the conflict, the country's position is improving as its army and military budget continue to increase, 'The Hill' reports. "Almost along the entire line of contact, our armed forces, let's put it modestly, are improving their position." "Almost everyone is in the active stage of action… and throughout the process the situation of our troops is improving.", Russian President Vladimir Putin, via statement.
