Headline: UNCAPTIONED: Northeast Storm Leaves Tens of Thousands Without Power Amid Dangerous Flooding

Caption: Northeast Storm Leaves Tens of Thousands Without Power Amid Dangerous Flooding. On Dec. 18, heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 50 mph caused power outages for over 300,000 people from Virginia to New England, CNN reports. As of early that day, the most outages were in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts. Restoration efforts are expected to be difficult, as wind gusts are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Flood alerts have been issued from Maryland to Maine. Several states are under flash flood warnings. In southern New England, coast flooding is a possibility and may cause some areas of Rhode Island to experience waterway levels not seen in over 30 years, CNN reports. The storm also took its toll in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic over the weekend, resulting in extreme flooding and a tornado watch. The storm will begin to move away from the Northeast later on Dec. 18, but the National Weather Service said its effects will linger. "Even though the big storm will begin to depart the Northeast Monday evening, the huge circulation of the storm will overspread the entire eastern U.S. with very blustery conditions.", National Weather Service, via statement.
