Salah Criticizes UEFA's Statement on Palestinian Footballer’s Death. Mohamed Salah has called out UEFA for its vague statement on the death of Palestinian footballer Suleiman Al-Obeid. UEFA’s post remembered Al-Obeid as the "Palestinian Pelé" but did not address the circumstances of his death, prompting Salah’s response. Al-Obeid, a former member of the Palestinian national team, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on civilians waiting for aid in southern Gaza. Salah questioned UEFA's lack of detail, asking, "Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?" His comment gained over 840,000 likes. The Palestine Football Association later shared a statement attributed to UEFA president Ceferin, offering condolences for Al-Obeid's death. Al-Obeid, who was 41, had scored more than 100 goals during his career and inspired children in Gaza with his talent. Salah, one of football’s most prominent voices, has been outspoken against the war in Gaza, calling for humanitarian aid and an end to the fighting. The Palestine Football Association reports that 325 members of its community have been killed since the war began in October 2023.
