Headline: The Electric Air Taxi That Could Replace Your Next Uber: eCopter Completes First Untethered Flights In Austria
Caption:
This futuristic helicopter has taken a significant step toward making flying taxis a reality. Austrian start-up FlyNow Aviation completed its first untethered test flights of its eCopter. Since 2019, FlyNow has aimed to reduce traffic, cut emissions, and offer faster city travel with electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. The company previously tested tethered flights in Salzburg to validate systems. The eCopter’s counter-rotating rotor system keeps noise at just 55 dB(A) at 150m, similar to a dishwasher, and uses only 30 kWh per 100 km. FlyNow claims its production costs are 10 times lower than competing designs, making fares comparable to regular taxis. The aircraft will offer one and two-seater passenger models, as well as cargo, firefighting, and rescue variants. “Every milestone brings us closer to making urban air mobility a reality. With this free flight, we’ve shown FlyNow is ready to take off” said co-founder Yvonne Winter.
