Meta's AI Strategy Focused on Compute, Open Source and Training Data. VentureBeat reports that Big Tech earnings calls have revealed insights into industry leaders' efforts to advance artificial intelligence. Google said it will focus on generative AI efforts involving search and cloud applications, while Microsoft will continue to integrate AI across its many products. Meanwhile, Meta reportedly offered a deeper look into the company's ongoing AI strategy. Meta will continue to focus on open-source AI and adding to a well of AI training data pulled from public posts on Facebook and Instagram. According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the company's long-term playbook aims at making Meta a leader in advanced AI products and services. In order to accomplish this, Meta will develop "full general intelligence" that will rely upon "world-class compute infrastructure". Zuckerberg said that because of the "lessons that we learned from Reels," the company has bolstered efforts to amass compute. "We initially under-built our GPU clusters for Reels, and when we were going through that I decided that we should build enough capacity to support both Reels and another Reels-sized AI service that we expected to emerge so we wouldn’t be in that situation again." Zuckerberg went on to stress the importance of the company's open source AI strategy. "Our long-standing strategy has been to build and open source general infrastructure while keeping our specific product implementations proprietary." Mark Zuckerberg, via VentureBeat. "This approach to open source has unlocked a lot of innovation across the industry and it’s something that we believe in deeply." Mark Zuckerberg, via VentureBeat.
