Downing Street responded that appointments follow established conventions and advice from the House of Lords Appointments Commission and political parties can make recommendations, but the final decision rests with the prime minister. Farage said he supports broader Lords reform, but stressed that the current “democratic disparity” in the upper house needs urgent attention.
