Trump cold-called Norwegian minister to lobby for Nobel Peace Prize. U.S. President Donald Trump called Norway’s Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg last month to discuss trade tariffs and his Nobel Peace Prize bid. The conversation, confirmed by a Norwegian official, included several of Trump’s aides, such as Treasury Secretary Bessent and Trade Representative Greer. Stoltenberg said the call also served as preparation for Trump’s upcoming discussion with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Trump has previously mentioned the Nobel Prize in other discussions with Stoltenberg, according to Norwegian media reports. His Friday meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska could influence his Nobel Peace Prize prospects, especially regarding Ukraine. Trump has claimed credit for easing tensions between India and Pakistan earlier this year and hosted Armenia and Azerbaijan leaders to discuss ending hostilities. If awarded, Trump would become the fifth U.S. president to win the prize, following Roosevelt, Wilson, Carter, and Obama. The Norwegian Nobel Committee selects laureates each year from hundreds of nominees, with winners announced every October in Oslo. Trump has expressed frustration publicly, saying he deserves the prize but believes he will never receive it, while White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called it “well past time” for him to win.
