Electronic Arts Announces Layoffs. In a memo to employees, Electronic Arts (EA) CEO Andrew Wilson announced that the company will lay off about 5% of its staff, Mashable reports. That equates to almost 700 jobs. "[W]e are streamlining our company operations to deliver deeper, more connected experiences for fans everywhere that build community, shape culture, and grow fandom." "In this time of change, we expect these decisions to impact approximately 5 percent of our workforce." "[W]e will support and work with each colleague with the utmost attention, care, and respect." Wilson went on to announce more changes for the company. "We are also sunsetting games and moving away from development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry." Andrew Wilson, EA CEO, via memo to employees. Wilson says that this will help EA to hone in on its "biggest opportunities — including [they company's] owned IP, sports, and massive online communities". The 'Star Wars' game that was being developed by Respawn Entertainment has been canceled. However, the 'Black Panther' and 'Iron Man' titles from Cliffhanger Games and Motive Studios, respectively, remain in development for the time being.
