£400M Revamp Planned as Vauxhall’s Historic Luton Plant Closes. The iconic Vauxhall plant in Luton has officially shut down after over a century of vehicle production, as reported by AFP. Property group Goodman has purchased the site and announced plans to invest £400 million to transform it into a high-quality commercial and industrial park by 2028. The redevelopment is expected to create over 1,700 new jobs. The site, located off Kimpton Road, had been producing cars and vans since 1905. Goodman says it will work closely with Luton Borough Council and the local community to shape plans for mixed employment use. However, more than 1,000 existing jobs are now at risk following the plant’s closure. The council had made a competitive bid for the land, but it was rejected by the current owner, Stellantis.
