How Weight-Loss Jabs Are Reshaping Shopping Habits. Weight-loss injections are not just changing waistlines, they are also transforming the way people spend. New research from University College London suggests around 1.6 million people in the UK used weight-loss jabs in 2024 with many more considering them despite costs of more than £300 a month. The drugs work by mimicking the hormone GLP-1, which suppresses appetite, leading users to buy less food and rethink what they put in their baskets. Sam Gillson, who lost more than four stone using the injections, says his weekly shop is smaller and healthier, with fewer ready meals and more fresh, nutrient-rich foods. Retailers are responding fast. Supermarkets including The Co-op, Morrisons and Marks and Spencer are launching nutrient-dense ready meals while Ocado now sells smaller portion sizes, such as 100-gram steaks. Protein-rich snacks and smoothies are also on the rise. According to Mintel, the shift reflects a wider cultural move toward health-conscious eating, with weight-loss jabs accelerating trends already underway.
