Legal Challenge Delays Microsoft’s Plan to Sell Games via Xbox Android App. Microsoft has announced a delay in its plans to allow users to buy and play games directly via the Xbox app on Android due to a legal issue, Eurogamer reports. Xbox chief Sarah Bond revealed the holdup stems from "a temporary administrative stay recently granted by the courts.” The Xbox team had planned to launch the feature by the end of the month. "Our team has the functionality built and ready to go live," Bond stated on social media, adding they are awaiting the court's final decision. The new feature is aimed at giving players more flexibility. ”We want to offer players more choice on how and where they play, including the ability to play and buy games directly from the Xbox app," Bond said. The legal obstacle appears to be tied to Google's appeal following the October 16 ruling in its case with Epic Games. That ruling ordered changes to Android’s app store policies. Epic Games successfully argued that Google maintained an illegal monopoly through its Play Store. The court ruling mandates Google allow third-party storefront apps and alternative payment systems on Android in the U.S. starting next year. Google is appealing the decision, citing potential conflicts with the Apple vs. Epic ruling, which found Apple’s ecosystem was not a monopoly. Google also claims the changes could compromise Android’s security and user safety. Despite the court's delay, Microsoft emphasized its eagerness to roll out the new features. "We are eager to launch and give more choice and flexibility to players," Bond reiterated.
