Nintendo Targets 200,000-Member SwitchPirates with Legal Action. According to IGN, Nintendo is targeting the 200,000-member SwitchPirates subreddit, informing a federal court of its intent to subpoena the platform in order to identify users. It was revealed that Nintendo used Reddit posts and repair orders to track down an alleged Switch pirate. Nintendo sued James “Archbox” Williams of Surprise, Arizona, for allegedly violating its digital copyrights by selling pirated Switch game copies. Nintendo informed a federal court in Washington State that it believes other members of the SwitchPirates subreddit were involved in the pirate shops. Nintendo seeks permission to subpoena business records from platforms like Reddit, Discord, and Google to identify Williams' alleged associates. “Nintendo has reason to believe that other accounts active in the SwitchPirates community may also have been controlled by Defendant, or else reflect other individuals who have worked alongside Defendant” - Nintendo lawyers. Nintendo secured a default judgment after Williams missed the deadline to respond but it's clear the company will continue its fight against pirates.
