Cargo Plane Crash at Hong Kong Airport Kills Two Ground Staff. A deadly aviation accident shook Hong Kong early Monday when an Emirates cargo plane skidded off the runway and plunged into the sea. Flight EK9788, arriving from Dubai around 3:50 a.m. local time, veered off course and smashed through airport fencing—colliding with an airport patrol vehicle. Both people inside the vehicle were killed. All four crew members onboard survived. Officials say the patrol car was on a safe road outside the runway area, and that the plane unexpectedly turned toward the sea without sending a distress signal. Photos show the Boeing 747 split in half, part of it submerged in the water. Divers recovered the bodies of the ground staff, aged 30 and 41. The black boxes are still being searched for, and one runway remains closed as investigators work to determine what went wrong. This is Hong Kong Airport's deadliest crash in decades.
