A rugged new bus design, capable of traversing extreme heat and rocky terrain, could help emergency services around the world. The gas-powered Torsus Praetorian TG3, a 35-passenger off-roader, was recently redesigned to include additional strength beyond the pavement. The Praetorian TG3 is the brainchild of Czech company Torsus, who are famous for their beastly off-road vehicles. The bus was initially unveiled in 2017 as a muscular people haulier, but the company said the latest iteration is even more off-road capable. The 2024 redesign includes a new air suspension, improved chassis-to-body connection, and improved engine cooling systems. Air suspension uses engine-controlled air pumps to inflate flexible textile-reinforced rubber bellows. This system replaces traditional steel springs, providing a smoother ride and the ability to adjust the vehicle's height for improved handling and comfort. Torsus also said the upgraded suspension will allow passengers to endeavour through tougher terrains. The company also rebooted its windows and mirrors, granting the driver more visibility. Drivers can select one of four drive modes "Efficiency," "Emergency," "Off-Road," and “Low-Range”. The bus is still a prototype, however, the company predicts that models will cost around $243,000 apiece.
