Violence Erupts at Independiente vs. Universidad de Chile Match, Dozens Hurt. More than 100 fans were arrested after violence erupted during the Copa Sudamericana match between Independiente and Universidad de Chile. At least 20 people were injured, including one fan in critical condition. Images showed fans jumping or falling from the upper deck to escape the attacks. The match, held at the Libertadores de América stadium in Avellaneda, Argentina, was cancelled. FIFA President Gianni Infantino condemned the violence, calling for safety in soccer. Argentine police said Universidad de Chile fans initially threw objects and damaged stadium property. Hooded Independiente supporters then attacked the visiting fans with sticks and metal bars.
