Netanyahu Disbands Israel's War Cabinet Returning Control to Main Security Cabinet. CNN reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dissolved Israel's war cabinet a little over a week after opposition leader Benny Gantz resigned from the group. According to an Israeli official, control of the military returns to the government's main security cabinet, with Netanyahu holding "smaller forums on sensitive matters". The war cabinet had been convened five days after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. It originally consisted of Netanyahu and four others: Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, opposition leader Benny Gantz, and two “observers,” Ron Dermer and Gadi Eisenkot. Last week, Gantz announced he would withdraw from the cabinet, accusing Netanyahu of failing to devise a strategy for the war in Gaza or the future governance of the area . Gantz, widely seen as Netanyahu's most formidable political opponent, also accused the prime minister of putting his own political aspirations ahead of developing a post-war strategy. "Fateful strategic decisions are met with hesitancy and procrastination due to political considerations." In his resignation announcement, Gantz went on to urge Netanyahu to hold an early election in the coming months. "I call on Netanyahu: set an agreed election date. Do not let our people be torn apart." In April of this year, nearly one year after the war in Gaza had begun, Gantz called for an early election to be held as soon as September. "Israeli society needs to renew its contract with its leadership.", Yoav Gallant, Israeli Defense Minister, via CNN. THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
