Trump Says All Mines Cleared From Strait Of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump says the US Navy has removed or detonated all mines in the Strait of Hormuz, the vital shipping route largely closed by Iran since the Middle East war began. President Trump warned that any Iranian vessel attempting to lay new mines would be immediately destroyed. Iran has not yet responded to his claims. The disruption to the strait has caused major volatility in global oil markets with around 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas passing through the waterway before the conflict. Iran has previously targeted vessels attempting to cross without its permission. The announcement comes amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran following the collapse of a ceasefire and the introduction of new US economic sanctions against Iran.
