Paul Mescal has set the record straight over speculation about a potential acting break. In a recent interview with The Guardian, the Irish actor declared that he doesn't think he "can go on (acting) as much" as he has been since his 2020 breakthrough in Normal People. After some people took his comments to mean that he was taking an acting hiatus, Mescal clarified that he is simply taking a break from being in the public eye between the end of the Hamnet awards circuit and the 2028 release of The Beatles films .”Oh, what I mean by that is that I'm excited for the period of time that will fundamentally exist where I won't be promoting anything," he told People. ”I would really lose my mind if I took two years off of my job. But what I'm excited about is the concept of not being on a promotional tour for the next two years.” He quipped, "I think it'll give people a welcome break from seeing my face.” In the original interview, which was published last week, the 29-year-old revealed that he may have to start "rationing" his acting roles. ”Rationing doesn't necessarily mean less," he stated, before explaining: "It means learning that films like The History of Sound take more out of the well. You can't keep going back and expect to consistently deliver something you're proud of. What that rationing looks like, I don't know.” When asked if he worries about losing his career momentum by taking time off, he replied, "That's the great fear. But what's the alternative? I don't want to resent the thing I love. This sounds bold, but I'd rather not be on the train if that is the choice.” Mescal has two films coming to U.K. cinemas this month. Hamnet will be released on Friday, while The History of Sound will come out on 23 January. After that, he is not expected to appear in a screen project until the four-film Beatles event in April 2028.
