EU Parliament to Vote on €90B Ukraine Loan Wednesday. The European Parliament is set to vote on a €90 billion loan to support Ukraine’s war effort, Parliament President Roberta Metsola said. The vote was brought forward after EU political groups agreed to fast-track the measure, which had originally been scheduled for later this month. Parliament spokesperson Delphine Colard said there was broad agreement among political groups ahead of the plenary session. The European People’s Party, the Socialists and Democrats, and Renew Europe backed the plan, ensuring a majority in favor of the loan. The vote would allow the European Commission to raise funds on international debt markets, backed by the EU’s long-term budget. The package includes changes to the EU budget and to an existing funding mechanism for Ukraine. Without the loan, Ukraine risked running out of cash by April, a scenario seen as catastrophic for its war effort amid U.S.-brokered peace talks. The vote was initially planned for a special plenary session marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
