King Charles to visit Australia despite cancer diagnosis. A statement from the royal family confirmed the King and Queen's visit will include engagements in Canberra and New South Wales, with further details to be announced "in due course”. The royals will also attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which will be held in Samoa between 21 and 25 October. Earlier this year, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed the King was planning a visit to Australia. This trip will mark the first visit to Australia by a reigning monarch since Queen Elizabeth II visited Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth in 2011 and the first from a new monarch since her visit in 1954. The late Queen visited Australia 16 times while on the throne. King Charles and Camilla last visited Australia in 2018 when the Commonwealth Games were hosted on the Gold Coast. The pair also toured the Northern Territory on that visit. It was the latest of 15 visits by King Charles to Australia in an official capacity. The tour will be historical for the island country of Samoa, which is the first Pacific nation to host CHOGM. THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
