US Envoy: Gaza and Ukraine Wars Could End by Year’s End. Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s envoy for the Middle East, said Tuesday that the conflict in Gaza is expected to conclude “one way or another” before the end of the year. Nearly 700 days into Israel’s offensive, more than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed, following Hamas attacks on Israel in October 2023 that left around 1,200 dead and 250 hostages taken - According to Politico. Witkoff blamed Hamas for delaying a peace deal that could have released hostages and noted Israel is increasing pressure while continuing operations in Gaza City amid international concern. Meanwhile, Gaza faces famine, and a recent hospital strike killed at least 20 people, including journalists. The envoy also highlighted efforts to end the war in Ukraine, saying U.S.-brokered talks with Russia show “the end is in sight” and that a peace agreement could emerge by year’s end. Russia’s proposals involve control over parts of eastern Ukraine, but Kyiv and allies demand a full withdrawal of Russian forces before agreeing to peace.
