Venice Tourism Fee Generates Significant Revenue for the City. Venice recently tested a €5 entrance fee for visitors, running over 29 days from April 25 to July 14, to help manage tourist numbers. This experiment raised approximately €2.64 million, significantly surpassing the expected €700,000. The initiative saw 3.6 million reservations, with exemptions for nearly 1.4 million hotel guests, over 651,000 workers, 466,819 students, and 217,589 residents. Additional exemptions covered relatives of residents and participants in specific events. The data revealed that peak tourist visits did not exceed those of April 30, 2023 and fewer people visited on designated "red flag days" over time. Mayor Luigi Brugnaro noted the experiment's success and plans for further analysis in the fall.
