Federal Investigation Launched Into Faulty Engines in Millions of Hondas. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation into 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles over reports of faulty engines. The inquiry focuses on 3.5-liter V-6 engines found in models including the 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline and 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey. NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation has received 414 reports of connecting rod bearing failures while Honda has received nearly 2,600 complaints. The issue is believed to be linked to a different crankshaft defect than the one that triggered a recall in 2023. That recall affected over 250,000 vehicles due to premature wear on the connecting rod bearing, which could cause engine seizure. This new investigation could uncover a separate manufacturing flaw affecting similar models.
