An expert guide to protecting your skin in the run-up to Christmas. Dr Ross Perry, from skin clinic chain Cosmedics, has shared his tips for keeping your skin fresh and healthy during the party season. ”Firstly, keep well hydrated. Alcohol may be a liquid but it is not good for hydration. Drink plenty of water the day before and after a party, also alternating an alcoholic drink with a glass of water while you're out.” The expert warns that red wine is particularly "dehydrating on the skin" and suggests opting for a white wine spritzer with sparkling water instead. Once you get home from the party, make sure you take your make-up off before you go to bed. ”Ensure that you always remove make-up before going to sleep, no matter how late you come in, so that your skin can breathe without the accumulation of any grime," he continues. In the morning, focus on hydrating and moisturising your skin. ”Replenish your skin and body with a green juice loaded with antioxidants the morning after the night before and a burst of exercise such as a 15-minute run outside. Avocados are good for the skin as loaded with Vit A, D and E, whilst drinking water and green tea and avoiding caffeine will rehydrate your skin.” Finally, if you are suffering from a hangover, try to avoid fatty, salty foods as your skin will suffer the consequences later. ”Do not reach for the fatty salty foods such as bacon sandwiches, fry-ups, crisps etc even though you feel your body is craving it, it is not, and your body and skin will not thank you for it," he advises.
