British pubs are evolving to be more inclusive and welcoming than ever. 86% of pubs now serve no or low-alcohol beers, with sales expected to reach 140 million pints in 2024. This marks a 12% increase compared to 2023, driven by growing interest in alcohol-free options. Non-alcoholic beer on draught has surged from 2% of pubs in 2019 to 8% today. Pubs are more inclusive and welcoming this festive season,’ says the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA). Nearly half of young drinkers aged 18-24 now choose low or no-alcohol options, up from 31% in 2022. A YouGov survey found 44% of young adults regularly drink these alternatives. BBPA is advocating for a change in the UK's alcohol-free threshold, currently at 0.05% ABV. Other countries allow up to 0.5% ABV for alcohol-free drinks, a standard BBPA wants the UK to adopt. This move would boost sales, support brewers, and benefit consumers,’ says BBPA chief Emma McClarkin. Whether it’s for moderation or a lifestyle choice, pubs are catering to all. With these changes, the pub remains a home away from home for everyone.
