NATO's Top General Unveils Plan To Fight Russia With Or Without US Forces. NATO’s top commander U.S. General Alexus Grynkewich has unveiled a new "Theory of Victory" outlining how the alliance would respond to a Russian attack. Grynkewich said NATO would "block" and "blunt" an initial assault before seeking to "break" attacking forces if the aggression continued. The strategy would combine ground troops with air, naval, cyber and space capabilities to prevent an enemy from seizing NATO territory. NATO could then deploy sensors, autonomous systems, precision weapons and unmanned technology to overwhelm enemy forces and disrupt their military infrastructure. Grynkewich stressed that he did not believe conflict was imminent or inevitable but said any attack against a NATO member would be made "utterly futile”. The general confirmed the plan accounts for the possibility that U.S. forces could be engaged elsewhere, as Washington increasingly focuses on priorities outside Europe. The Pentagon has already reduced some contributions to NATO crisis forces and is expected to review the U.S. military presence in Europe by the end of the year. Grynkewich also warned NATO could respond to military escalation with its own nuclear capabilities following recent Russian nuclear threats involving Kaliningrad.
