A revolutionary new aircraft could change how we travel forever – and it doesn’t need a runway, helipad, or garage. Sigma is a sleek, futuristic eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft from aerospace startup AltoVolo that’s designed to launch directly from your driveway, rooftop, without the need for airports. Simply step inside, push a button, and you could be hovering above the neighbourhood, cruising above traffic. With a 4.8-meter-wide airframe and a weight of just 980kg, Sigma cruises at 220 mph and can reach speeds up to 290 mph. Thanks to its hybrid power system, Sigma can fly up to 510 miles on one trip or 260 miles in electric-only mode. It can carry up to three passengers and luggage, with a total payload of 270kg. With a flight ceiling of 10,000 feet and noise levels quieter than a lawnmower, it's perfect for residential areas. AltoVolo is opening a waitlist for early reservations of Sigma this July as they prepare for full-scale production.
