Giuliani, famously dubbed "America’s Mayor" for his leadership after 9/11 previously served as Trump’s personal lawyer, though the pair have since parted ways. Trump shared the news on Truth Social, calling Giuliani "the greatest Mayor in the history of New York City, and an equally great American Patriot" . The medal recognises individuals who have made exceptionally meritorious contributions to the nation’s security, values, or prosperity. Past recipients include Muhammad Ali, Anna Wintour, and Michael J. Fox. The announcement comes just days after Giuliani was injured in a car crash in New Hampshire. He has since been released from hospital, and it remains unclear when he will formally receive the award.
