Australia captain Pat Cummins will miss the upcoming limited-overs series against New Zealand and India due to a lower back issue, Cricket Australia confirmed. The 32-year-old fast bowler last played in July during the third Test in the West Indies - According to BBC. Medical checks revealed lumbar bone stress that will require ongoing management, but Cummins is expected to recover in time for the Ashes against England, starting 21 November in Perth. Chairman of selectors George Bailey said there is ample time for Cummins to prepare despite missing limited-overs matches. Meanwhile, veteran fast bowler Mitchell Starc has retired from T20 internationals, six months ahead of the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Starc, who took 79 wickets in 65 T20 matches and helped Australia win the 2021 T20 World Cup, said the decision allows him to stay fresh for upcoming Test tours, the Ashes, and the 2027 ODI World Cup.
