Musk Warns: Fix H-1B Abuse, Don’t Scrap the System. Tesla CEO Elon Musk says the H-1B visa system is being “gamed” by certain outsourcing firms, but argues the answer is to stop the abuse—not dismantle a program that has long benefited the U.S. economy - According to BBC. Speaking on entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath’s podcast, Musk noted that about 70% of H-1B visas go to Indian professionals in tech and medicine, and that America has gained enormously from their talent. He acknowledged concerns over manipulation of the lottery system, including multiple applications for the same worker or using visas for low-cost contractors rather than specialized roles. Still, Musk rejected calls from some conservatives to shut the program down entirely, warning that doing so would be “very bad” for the U.S. New data shows approvals for major Indian outsourcing companies have dropped sharply—down 70% since 2015. Meanwhile, President Trump’s new $100,000 application fee and tougher policies may increase denial rates. Musk also criticized Trump’s heavy reliance on tariffs, saying he tried—unsuccessfully—to convince the President they distort markets. Tariffs on Indian goods remain among the highest globally, even as both countries push to finalize a new trade agreement this year.
