John Amos' death at the age of 84 announced. The TV actor, who appeared in major shows including Good Times, The West Wing and the Die Hard film series, died of natural causes in Los Angeles on 21 August. The late star's son, K.C. Amos, announced on Tuesday in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter: "It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned.” "He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold... and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.” The star was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1939, was raised in East Orange, and began a professional American football career in the 1960s. He grew to prominence for his acting playing Gordy Howard, the weatherman on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, in the early 1970s, and went on to play James Evans Sr on Good Times from 1974 until 1976. Amos received an Emmy nomination for his performance in the 1977 miniseries Roots and was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2020. He married equestrian Noel Mickelson in 1965 and welcomed two children before their divorce in 1975 - and subsequently.
