Four Survivors Say Minister Must Quit For Them To Rejoin Grooming Inquiry. Four abuse survivors are demanding Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips resign as part of their conditions for rejoining the grooming gangs inquiry. The women have accused Phillips of "betrayal" after she dismissed reports suggesting the scope of the inquiry could be expanded as “untrue." They also called for their victim liaison officer's removal along with Phillips. They argue this would demonstrate the government's commitment to accountability. Despite this, Children's Minister Josh MacAlister has confirmed that Phillips has the "full backing” of the Prime Minister and Home Secretary and she will not be asked to step down. The inquiry, announced by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in June, is set to have the power to compel witness testimony and be guided by a panel of survivors.
