King Charles Opens Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. King Charles III opened the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick, greeted by staff, patients, and well-wishers. His Majesty unveiled a commemorative plaque, marking the official opening of the 736-bed hospital. Crowds lined the atrium walkways, waving flags and taking photos as the King toured the new hospital. During the visit, the King interacted with patients, their families, and medical staff on the wards. He met Hernata Yonas, the first baby born at the hospital last October, and her parents from Perry Barr. The King also greeted Elsie Kudozie, a new mother whose daughter Eyanna was born at the hospital earlier this week. Sir David Nicholson, NHS Trust chair, called the hospital’s opening a major milestone for staff and the community.
